William the Conqueror was born in Falaise (1027 or 1028) and the castle, as the cradle of the Anglo-Norman dynasty, was one of the main residences for the dukes of Normandy.
This mighty stronghold was a symbol of regal power and was a witness to many centuries of history. It is now a renowned symbol of Norman heritage and is the most visited castle in the region with 50.000 visitors a year.
